About the Shop:

Wind-NC is a real deal store where you can come in and see, touch, talk about, and even try almost all of the latest gear.  We’re ideally located in one of the windiest and waviest places on the planet- Cape Hatteras.  This gives our staff the year-round opportunity to test tons of different types of gear.  We feel this is important so that we can make the most educated recommendations to our customer’s inquiries.

We’d like nothing more than for you to come on down to the beach and check out the shop in person!  Email and phone calls are great, but a handshake and sharing a wave is even better… So what are you waiting for?  There’s never been a better time for you to make the pilgrimage to the East Coast’s Windsurfing Mecca!!

Who You’ll Meet: Wind-NC is staffed by some of the most stoked, cheerful, friendly, and knowledgeable folks on Hatteras Island. If you visit Wind-NC, you’ll meet Andy McKinney, Ken Ahrendt, Anne McKinney, and Maddy Ruegg- The folks responsible for the Lost In Hatteras Windsurfing Blog, and frequent contributions to Windsurfing Magazine, Windsport Magazine, The New England Windsurfing Journal, and Windsurfer International.

Ken Ahrendt has a long history of windsurfing, starting with his time at the St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he served as the President of the Windsurfing Club.  He also spent a few years living the dream in Maui, teaching windsurfing and running sailboat charters- but the lure of Hatteras Island’s winds brought him back to the East Coast to hit the slicks, sounds, and Atlantic Ocean waves.

All of you heavyweights out there will appreciate Ken’s input- He’s 6’3″ and ~185 pounds, so he knows what it takes to get you guys moving.

Maddy Ruegg is new to the team for 2011.  We convinced her to slow down her global tour and spend a few weeks hanging in Hatteras.  Maddy started windsurfing in Columbia in 2008.  Since then, she’s honed her skills in the Gorge and Cape Hatteras.

We share a building with Hatteras Island Boardsports and Village Video, right smack dab in the middle of Avon, on the west side of the highway.  Specifically, we’re located around the back of the building.  You can enter via the side door or through the front door at HIB.  Rental customers should use the side door.
