- Regarding Customer Experience- From Naomi:
Greg and I had an amazing month windsurfing in Cape Hatteras. A HUGE thank you to Andy and Anne at Wind-NC for getting me out there to brave the big wind! I was teetering on the edge….getting seriously tired of coming in, just as the “real” windsurfers were going out. Anne is such a great instructor (on water and land) and motivator, she gave me the gentle push I needed to suck it up, get my feet in the straps, and sheet in like I mean it! Where I’m from, the windsurfing crowd is all guys. It was awesome to see another girl ripping it up out there, and even correcting my husband and his friends on their bad habits. Go Anne!
July had great wind! After my first couple of rides in 20+ knots/chop, I realized it was time to abandon my 85cm, 140 liter Formula board (why, oh why, did I cling to that for so long???) and rent some smaller sails (Gaastra 3.7 and 4.2 were perfect). Andy hooked me up with my first “skinny-ish” board (66cm wide, RRD 115 liter twin fin) which in the end, I loved so much I decided to buy. Andy totally nailed this board. It’s like it was custom made for me…good foot strap placement for learning, the twin fin makes it super stable, easy to control… I can water start now, get planing and “serious” speed is just around the corner….I can feel it!
Thanks so much, Andy, Anne, and Ken at WIND NC. You always take the time to listen, answer questions, and offer personal, seriously AMAZING advice. You are windsurfing geniuses.
See you next summer!
- Regarding Beginner Windsurfing Lessons- From Eric, Washington, CT
“I wanted to follow up with you and let you know what an outstanding instructor Ken is. During both lessons that Alex had, Ken was patient, thorough, and extremely professional…”
- From Michelle, of the Triangle Boardsailing Club. 7/1/11
“Our club has really appreciated the instruction that Wind-NC has provided to us. The in-shop clinics are great opportunities to cover the technical aspects of basic and advanced skills. This spring we paid for an on-the-water clinic and all participants gained from the on-the-water feedback on their jibes and other windsurfing moves. ”

- Review of the Tahoe Zephyr and Bliss SUPs, via blog post by Casey, 4/25/11:
“Wow! These boards can glide, and are smooth as butter. They are a must have for any type of flat water paddling, No need for a kayak or canoe ever again! You can travel such a far distance with little effort you will be truly amazed! So that’s what they felt like in the water. Now my engineering brain wanted to see what the actual speed difference was. So I turned on the GPS and presto! Numbers.” Read the rest of the write-up HERE!!
- Review of the 2011 Tabou 3S 86, via email from Randy, 4/18/11 :
I picked up the Tabou 3Style 86 from the shop on Saturday afternoon. Went straight into way, way powered up SE 4.3 conditions and the board was locked in and smooth. Then Sunday morning I sailed a fading up and down W on a 5.8 – the board jump up on plane as the wind filled in and was comfortable shlogging in the lulls. In 24 hours I was able to test exactly the range I was looking for in the board and it worked great. Andy spent the time and described performance of boards in a way that helped me to sort out the right board for my level and the kind of sailing I was looking to do. Thanks! Randy K.
- Review of the 2011 Chinook Pro1 Carbon Boom via email from Paul:
andy, thanks again for the new chinook carbon boom. that boom is killer, makes me want to use my 8m now compared to clunky NP boom and much more solid on overpowered 7m than the old chinook carbon. was a little panicked at first rigging because thought no way skinny adapter was going to fit my nolimitz 490, but popped right on with some clamp pressure, nice solid connection. see you again next spring. paul
- Customer Service/Rental Fleet Review via the Wind-NC Facebook Page:
- KaKu FreestyleWave Weed Fin Review:
“Thanks for suggesting the Kaku freestyle fin (18cm). I won’t need to use anything else on the sound. It turns my freestyle/wave board into a truly freestyle board. I’ve sailed it with a marginally powered 5.8 and a lit 4.6. It works as a weed fin, points really well and is super fast. It’s taken the fear out of my Vulcan attempts as it slides nicely and doesn’t grab and flip the board on partial spins like conventional fins do. Its looseness turned a few stiffy heli-tack attempts into upwind 360s because it allows the board to spin so easily, I just kept going around! Thanks again!” -Ken K. via email, April 3rd, 2011

“I already know you are a class act, but you and the shop both keep moving higher!!! “ -Gary M. via email, March 1st, 2011
- Concerning the 2011 Starboard Element (9’8″ x 30″) Stand Up Paddle Board:
“We had some wind in the morning…a bit too much for paddling, so we stuck our 5 meter sails on our boards and went light wind wavesailing in 10-15mph side/side-off wind and waist high waves. I was able to turn the Element immediately down the line and get a couple of good top and bottom turns on most waves before they completely broke. The Element caught waves very nicely. The waves weren’t rad by any means, but we had a ton of fun out there. I do look forward to seeing what else the board can do in bigger, longer and cleaner waves.” Review by Mac B. Feb 27, 2011.
